Sights and Sounds of the Flats
The Cleveland Flats provides an endless array of sights,
sounds and activites, both natural and manmade.
The Cleveland Flats was not always the roaring, modern
entertainment area that it is today. In fact, most of the
history of the Flats hails from the industrial age of Cleveland,
when the Flats was the center of shipping and industry.
The Powerhouse
Once the source of generated electricity for the Cleveland
streetcars, and nearly one hundred years old, the powerhouse
stood abandoned for decades until its conversion into a
shopping and dining complex in the late eighties

The old streetcar powerhouse was not always the center of
shopping and entertainment. These pictures taken in the
mid seventies show the state of disrepair that the facility
had fallen into.
Today, it is one of the centerpieces in the renaissance
of the Cleveland Flats. Renovated and repaired, the Powerhouse
is home to shops and restaurants in the west bank Nautica
Complex.
